What Phizenix's CEO Learned at Her First WBENC National Conference
Jun 20, 2026
Khursheed Irani, Founder and CEO of Phizenix, wasn't sure what to expect walking into her first-ever WBENC National Conference. She'd heard it was the largest gathering of women business owners in the country. She knew there would be sessions, exhibits, and networking. But knowing what something is on paper and actually experiencing it are two very different things.
What she found was something she genuinely wasn't prepared for: a community.
Not a crowd. Not a room full of people exchanging business cards and moving on. A real community of entrepreneurs, supplier diversity leaders, corporate buyers, and business owners who were genuinely invested in each other's success. The conversations weren't transactional. People asked real questions, shared real challenges, and offered real connections. It felt less like a networking event and more like a group of people who had all been building in parallel and finally had a room to compare notes.
For Phizenix, showing up here felt important. As a WBENC-certified, women-owned business, being part of this ecosystem isn't just a credential, it's a commitment. Supplier diversity exists because access to opportunity isn't equally distributed, and because diverse suppliers bring perspectives that make the organizations they work with stronger. The energy in that room wasn't obligatory. It was momentum. Corporations are taking supplier diversity seriously in ways that are translating into real contracts and real relationships, and the businesses showing up are doing so with more ambition than outsiders might expect.
The sessions were valuable. but the conversations between sessions were where Khursheed got the most out of the conference. Everyone was there to build something, to grow, and to find the people who could help them do it. That shared purpose made everything easier and more energizing.
She left with new relationships to continue building, a clearer sense of the community Phizenix belongs to, and real momentum going into the rest of the year.
For anyone considering attending for the first time: go with openness rather than an agenda, give yourself time in the hallways where the real conference happens, and follow up while the conversations are still fresh.
Being part of a community like this takes intention and showing up. The WBENC National Conference made it clear that Phizenix belongs in this ecosystem, and Khursheed is already looking forward to the next one.
